The older a Mac gets, the harder its fans have to work to keep everything cool. One initial consideration to note is the age of your Mac.
Let’s take a look at a few of these reasons that could be the source of overheating and then we will take a look at how to fix them.
There are a few different reasons why your MacBook Pro could be running hot. Excessive overheating of your MacBook Pro can cause it to run really slowly, freeze up all of the time, and generally not operate like it is supposed to.Ī really hot Mac can also shut down automatically and this can lead to potential data loss if you don’t have things saved when your Mac attempts to protect itself. If critical pieces of hardware become damaged, this can lead to poor performance. Similar to other expensive machines, like your car, you don’t want it running hot for long. Dry with another soft, lint-free cloth.Important pieces of hardware like your hard drive and CPU can become damaged when exposed to constant overheating and this can cause them to operate poorly and possibly fail over time.Don’t allow the liquid from the wipe to remain on the area too long.) Wipe again with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth, such as microfiber. (If a wipe is too wet, squeeze out excess liquid before using it. Using light, gentle strokes, wipe the keyboard first with a disinfecting wipe.
First turn off the computer, unplug the power cord and remove the battery if cleaning a wireless or portable keyboard.Do NOT use disinfectant sprays or wipes containing bleach. According to Apple’s website, use Lysol Wipes or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to do the job. There are times when you may want to disinfect a keyboard, especially when using a public computer or one with multiple users. Then turn the laptop to the left side and spray, left to right, top to bottom. Turn the laptop to the right and spray the keyboard again, from left to right, top to bottom.Keep the end of the straw about a half-inch away from the keyboard while spraying. Spray the keyboard with compressed air, moving the can from left to right. Hold it so that the keyboard is at a 75-degree angle, tipping slightly backward. Apple recommends the following technique when using compressed air. This could spray propellant, instead of air, onto the keyboard.
Do not turn the can of compressed air upside down while spraying. Make sure the straw’s attached to control the airflow.
